im so hyped to finally build my first real computer like ive been using this crusty old laptop for years and its literally crying whenever i try to edit 4k video for my youtube channel but i dont really know what im doing tbh. i live in chicago and found this local shop that said i should wait for the rtx 5090 because its gonna be the best thing ever but i looked at the prices of the old ones and my heart kind of stopped because they're so expensive!! im trying to save up and i think i can have like $1600 ready by next year but i really dont want to spend all of it on just one part if i can help it because i still need a monitor and everything else... sorry if this is a really stupid question i have no idea how these sales work or if computer parts even go on sale like clothes do or whatever but do you think the rtx 5090 is gonna have any big price drops for black friday in 2026 or is it better to just buy it whenever? i really wanna get the best deal possible since its my first build ever and im kinda nervous about messing it up...

So funny you ask this — last summer I spent months waiting for a flagship sale and just ended up paying MSRP anyway lol. Building on the earlier suggestion, flagships dont really drop.

  • NVIDIA RTX 5090: Gonna eat your whole $1600 budget alone.
  • NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super: Way more realistic for a first build.
  • NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti Super: Leaves cash for that 4k monitor. Honestly just skip the 5090 hype...

Checking in a bit late here, but man, I totally feel that anxiety — I remember when I was building my first rig and I spent weeks staring at the price chart for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 24GB thinking "there is no way they keep it this high for Black Friday." Well, spoiler alert — they did. I ended up waiting for a sale that never actually happened — wait, no — actually it went up in price because of stock issues and I felt like such an idiot for stalling my build for six months for nothing. See, the thing about the "90" class cards — or any halo product really — is that they don't follow normal retail logic because: 1. Supply is always tight for the top-bin silicon, so stores don't need to discount them to move units.

  • NVIDIA controls the margins so tightly that most retailers would actually lose money if they dropped the price of a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 by more than like, fifty bucks.
  • Black Friday is mostly a trick to dump "old" inventory or lower-end stuff like the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti rather than the shiny new flagship. I learned the hard way that if you're waiting for a deal on the absolute best card on the market, you're usually just waiting to be disappointed — and with $1600 you're definitely going to be short if you want a decent monitor and a CPU that won't bottleneck everything.

Came here to say the same thing lol. Great minds think alike I guess.

Oh man, this is totally my thing—I remember waiting forever for my current flagship card (the one with that massive triple-slot cooler), thinking I’d score a massive deal. I held out until November, but wait—no, it was actually December before stock even stabilized—and the price barely budged. I learned that top-tier gear doesn't really do the 'clothing sale' thing. Anyway, bottom line is flagships usually stay pricey.
