so i been looking at the 5080 for my 4k editing rig since my current card is basically a brick at this point and im getting super frustrated bc prices just arent moving. i read some blogs saying there might be black friday deals in 2026 but then some guys on reddit say nvidia is gonna keep prices high to push the new stuff so idk what to believe. i really need to stay under $900 which is tough since im in canada.

  • need it for heavy video work
  • budget is $900 max
  • 3-fan model preferred

do you guys think any actual sales are gonna happen or am i just wasting my time waiting until november?

Honestly, snagging a 5080 for under $900 CAD — wait, that’s like $650 USD? — is basically a pipe dream since Nvidia keeps those 80-class prices locked down tight. You’re way better off hunting for a ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16GB on clearance or a used NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Super 16GB if you really need to stay under that budget.

To add to the point above: the pricing situation is lowkey a scam — honestly, it drives me crazy how they treat the 80-series like some luxury tier now (it’s just a GPU, chill guys).

  • It’s actually ridiculous how they’ve priced us out, tbh.
  • $900 CAD is... wait, that’s way too low for that card. Quick question though — what software are you actually using for your 4k work? Just curious about your workflow.

Rarely post but I saw this and had to chime in because that $900 CAD limit is a bit of a reality check. > do you guys think any actual sales are gonna happen or am i just wasting my time waiting until november? Honestly, you're probably wasting your time waiting for a 5080 to hit that price — I mean, $900 CAD is roughly $650 USD — and Nvidia just doesn't slash flagship prices by 40% while the card is still relevant. They'd rather let stock sit. If you really need to stay under nine bills for 4K video work, you're way better off looking at something like a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5070 WINDFORCE OC 12GB during the Black Friday rushes or — actually, wait, for heavy editing you really want the VRAM — so maybe check out the Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT 20GB instead. It actually has a chance of hitting that price point in Canada and the 20GB of memory is a godsend for high-res timelines. That 5080 dream is just gonna keep you stuck with a bricked rig.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I think youre gonna have a rough time hitting that $900 mark in Canada. Im a dad of three so I basically live to find deals and I ALWAYS calculate the cost per year before I pull the trigger on anything. Not sure but I heard from a buddy that the prices are gonna stay high because of the AI boom, lowkey sucks for us video guys.

  • Look at refurbished units from the big brands
  • Compare the red team prices because they usually offer more bang for your buck
  • Wait for the post-holiday warehouse clears Honestly I did my own repair on my old rig when the shop wanted $300 and I got it running for $40. SAVED me a ton. You gotta be scrappy if you wanna stay under budget. Idk if that specific card is ever gonna hit that price tbh... i think youre probably better off looking at the competition if you want that kind of value.

Honestly, you're probably not gonna see a 5080 for that price because retailers love to keep the high-end stuff inflated — even when they claim it's a massive sale, they usually just mark it up two weeks before to make the 'discount' look better. It’s actually kind of funny how much we stress over these specific parts when, like, half the time the hardware isn't even the issue. I remember back in college I spent my entire summer savings on this 'bulletproof' workstation build that was supposed to last a decade, but the motherboard ended up having this weird capacitor issue that made it hum like a beehive whenever I opened Premiere. I spent like three weeks thinking it was my house wiring — wait, no — I even called an electrician out to check the outlets before I realized I’d just fallen for the hype of a brand that pays off all the major tech reviewers for those 'perfect' scores. My desk was a total disaster of half-taken-apart components for a month and my roommate almost moved out because of the noise... anyway lol, sorry I kinda went off topic there.
