so i've been scouring the forums and tbh i keep seeing conflicting stuff about the R5 Mark II like some people on CanonRumors are saying—actually i think it was a Reddit thread—there might be a huge price drop for Cyber Monday 2026 but others say those leaks are just for the original R5 and im kinda confused cause I really need to upgrade before my big trip to the Galapagos. I'm based in Oregon so im hoping for something tax-free or a solid B&H deal...

  • budget: stay under $3200
  • use case: wildlife/sports
  • preference: body only

is there actually any leaked info yet or is it too early?

So funny you ask this — last summer I was basically living on rumors sites trying to snag a Canon EOS R5 Mark II Body for a trip to Glacier and I fell for a "leak" that turned out to be totally fake. I waited months for a price drop that never happened and almost missed my window to get the gear... it was a total mess. tbh looking for 2026 leaks right now is gonna be rough because most of those sites just recycle old data for clicks. Canon keeps their pricing tight for the first two years of a flagship, so getting the Canon EOS R5 Mark II Body under $3200 might be a stretch even for Cyber Monday unless you go the refurbished route. Since youre in Oregon you already win on the tax-free front regardless of where you buy, which is HUGE.

  • Watch the Canon Direct Refurbished store like a hawk; they sometimes drop "like-new" bodies for way less than retail.
  • Set up a price alert on a site like CPW because they catch the "street price" deals that B&H cant always advertise openly. ngl the original Canon EOS R5 Body is still a beast for wildlife if the Mark II stays too pricey...

Saw this and had to chime in. tbh you are looking way too far ahead. like someone mentioned, leaks this far out are just noise but the math is simple. Canon usually hits a permanent price drop around month 24. For the Canon EOS R5 Mark II Body, that puts the sweet spot at Cyber Monday 2026 but hitting under $3200 for a NEW body is lowkey impossible. if you want wildlife performance NOW and need to stay under budget, grab a Canon EOS R3 Body. the AF is actually better for birds and the build is TANK status. since you are in oregon you already get no tax so just buy from a local shop or check the Sony Alpha 1 Body used if you arent married to Canon glass yet. seriously, dont wait for a 2026 leak that wont even exist until oct 2026...

Leaked info for 2026 is unreliable. Just make sure you don't plan your gear acquisition around rumors. If you buy a gray market body to hit a $3200 price point, Canon won't honor the warranty. I'd recommend staying with authorized dealers for a trip to the Galapagos. Consider these alternatives for wildlife:

  • Canon EOS R6 Mark II: Fast 40fps electronic shutter and excellent tracking.
  • Canon EOS R7: High pixel density on a crop sensor for extra reach. Double-check the weather sealing on your lenses. I'd recommend getting everything professionally inspected before you leave. The salt air and humidity are high-risk for electronics.
